Energy Save New West was pleased to host an on-site air tightness training session earlier this month in New Westminster. This innovative session is the first of its kind in the Lower Mainland that brought together a terrific turnout of local builders, architects/designers and trades that participated in hands-on training at mid-stage construction on an actual new construction project.
This new home is modeled to achieve Energy Step Code Level 3 using conventional materials and approaches. While on site, the participants were able to see detailing for wall/ceiling connections, assembly transitions, handling penetrations and options for dealing with pot lights. In addition, participants completed a mid-stage blower door test with thermal imaging and smoke machine to evaluate the integrity of the air barrier. From the blower door testing, we’re pleased to report that house is already at 1.8 ACH @ 50 Pa. which puts the air tightness metric closer to Step Code 4 and ahead of the project target.
Energy Save New West would like to thank Versa Developments (builder) and FortisBC for their support of this session.
