The City of New Westminster is proud to be awarded a grant for $10,000 from Vancity to support the Urban Solar Garden project. Funding from Vancity was awarded through their Community Partnership Program which offers investment in local projects and initiatives that are aligned with Vancity’s impact priorities.
With environmental sustainability being a shared priority area for both the Vancity and the City of New Westminster, the Urban Solar Garden is a natural fit for the Community Partnership Program. For local residents and businesses, the Urban Solar Garden offers an accessible, less expensive alternative to individual rooftop solar photovoltaic installations, allowing long term access to renewable power “Made in New West for New West”.
Coming in summer 2018, the Urban Solar Garden is now fully subscribed with the local New West Vancity branch also being part of over fifty local residents, businesses and non-profits that purchased panels in the solar array.
Thanks again to Vancity for their support in the first municipal-led community solar PV initiative in Metro Vancouver!
Please stay tuned to Energy Save New West’s website and our program e-newsletter for periodic updates on the Urban Solar Garden into 2018. If you have any questions on the Urban Solar Garden, please do not hesitate to reach out and provide us your thoughts via email.
